Section 1: Key Benefits of Connecting
Builds a Visual Brand & "Vibe": Instagram is the social media powerhouse for visual storytelling. It allows you to move beyond simply showing a product and instead sell an atmosphere and distinct brand personality, which users now rely on to judge the "vibe" of a business (like a restaurant or shop) over traditional star ratings.
Acts as a Dual Search Engine (In-App & Google): Instagram is now a powerful discovery tool. Internally, users find your business by searching keywords and hashtags (e.g., "vegan bakery London"). Externally, Google now indexes Instagram profiles and posts, meaning your IG content can appear in traditional Google search results, turning the platform into a crucial part of your local SEO strategy.
Fosters a Loyal Community & Engagement: Instagram provides a direct line of communication. By engaging through comments, DMs, polls, and Q&A sessions, you can build a loyal community, offer real-time customer service, and gather invaluable feedback. Encouraging users to tag your location or "check-in" also boosts your visibility in local discovery.
Section 2: Setting Up & General
This section covers the essential steps to connect your Instagram accounts to PinMeTo.
Overview
What's the difference between Instagram Business Account and Instagram (Locations)?
Your Business Account is your official profile. You are the owner. You control 100% of the content, you write every caption, and you choose every single photo. You can delete anything you don't like.
Your Location Page is the public bulletin board for your address. You don't "own" this page; Instagram/Meta does. It's a shared space designed to show everyone's public posts from that specific place.
- Anyone Can Post to It: Any customer who visits your store can tag your location. Their post (if public) will automatically be added to that Location Page's feed.
- You Have No Editorial Control: If a customer posts an unflattering photo of your food or a video of a crowded, messy room and tags your location, you cannot delete their post from that public Location Page.
- It's Crowd-Sourced, Not Curated: It is an unfiltered collection of everyone's experiences at your address - think of it similar to a platform like Trustpilot.
What do we support?
We support both.
- Via Listings, you can set up Location Pages that are listed on Instagram through our partnership with Facebook (the parent company of Instagram).
- Via Posts & Conversations, you can connect your Business Account to create and engage with post content and incoming direct messages.
Part 1: Before you Begin
- Instagram Business Account Requirement: Ensure all the Instagram accounts you wish to manage are set up as Instagram Business accounts. You cannot connect personal accounts.
Part 2: Connect Instagram to Your Facebook Page
Part 3: Connect Instagram to PinMeTo
- In PinMeTo, go to Account Settings > Connections.
- In the Facebook/Instagram section, click Login or Change.
- You will be prompted to log into your Facebook account. Follow the steps to grant PinMeTo permission to access your connected Instagram accounts. It may take up to 24 hours for newly connected accounts to appear in PinMeTo.
Part 4: How the Connection Works
Instagram Location Pages
- Connection Type: This is a two-way, direct connection managed through the Facebook API. Instagram (Locations) is not the same as an Instagram Business Account. Locations on Instagram appear only when a location is created on Facebook. The location on Facebook then gets automatically created on Instagram – locations cannot be created directly on Instagram. PinMeTo pushes data to the directory as soon as there are data changes and the directory pushes data to PinMeTo. We can verify what data is in the directory.
- Update Frequency: See our Facebook guide.
Instagram Business Accounts
- Connection Type: This is a two-way, direct API connection. PinMeTo pushes data to Instagram as soon as content is pushed, and we can verify what data is live on the network.
- Update Frequency: Changes made in PinMeTo are typically reflected on Instagram within a few minutes.
Section 3: Social
This section covers what you can do to engage with your customers on Instagram.
Posting
You can manage your organic post content using our Posts product.
- Organic Posts: Post to one or multiple Instagram Accounts, including your brand account, at once. We support all types of Instagram posts. We do not provide support for paid ad campaigns or other paid marketing content.
- Import: Import posts that were created and published on the network itself. This allows you to get an overview of activity and see comprehensive insights.
- Insights: Monitor overall activity and performance or break it down by location or filtered group of your choosing (e.g. all locations in one neighbourhood or city).
Managing Comments & Messages
You can manage user interactions directly using our Conversations product.
- Comments: Read and reply to comments on your posts.
- Mentions & Tags: When a user tags your account in their post or story, it will appear in your Conversations inbox, allowing you to view and engage with it.
- Direct Messages (DMs): Read and reply to DMs directly from Conversations.
Section 4: Instagram Insights

FAQs
Q: I can't find my Instagram account when trying to connect it.
A: Ensure the account is an Instagram Business account and that it is properly connected to a Facebook Page within your Meta Business Suite. It can sometimes take up to 24 hours for a newly connected account to become available.
Q: Can I connect an Instagram Business Account that is not connected to a Facebook Page currently connected on PinMeTo?
A: At this time, you cannot connect stand-alone Instagram Business Accounts nor personal Instagram accounts.
Q: Why can't I reply to an old Direct Message?
A: Instagram's API restricts replies to messages that are more than 7 days old. You must respond to DMs within this timeframe.
Q: Can I edit or delete an Instagram post from PinMeTo after it's published?
A: Due to Instagram API limitations, you cannot edit or delete a post from PinMeTo after it has been published. The only exception is the ability to enable or disable comments. All other edits or deletions must be done directly in the Instagram app.
Q: What specific location data is sent to Instagram?
A: Instagram does not have its own separate location database. Instead, it uses Facebook's location data. When you create location pages in your Facebook Location Structure, those locations become available for users to tag in their Instagram posts and stories. The data sent is the same as what is sent to Facebook. To see which data fields are sent to each network, please refer to this section of our Listings guide.
